Happy Valentine's Day!

The day of love and romance....what a crock of crap! I swear the card companies make up these holidays just to be able to make more sales.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a hard person or someone that is alone for Valentines Day. But I think when you get to a certain age you just dont need it. Why do I need one day out of the year for someone to tell me they care about me. To take me to a restaurant that you have to wait an hour to get into because everyone else is trying to do the same thing.

To get chocolates that I can't eat or flowers that will die in a few days....why do it? If you love someone shouldn't you be showing them throughout the year? Shouldn't you bring her flowers or take her to dinner just because you care throughout the year? Why on this night..what makes it more special than any other night? I will tell you what makes it more special....absolutely nothing! Its girls just wanting to be pampered.

So to all of you out there that are going to great lengths to make your someone special feel good tonight, kudos to you! You are playing the game and will keep making that woman happy. And for those of you that do not play it, well, I can only imagine that you are going to be alone tonight...however, when it gets to the point where you don't have to do this anymore and she says its ok not to, then you know you have a love that will last and is comfortable. You have made it through the toughest times at that point.

Yesturday (Jan 26th) was my birthday and I have to say it was by far one of the best ones I have had in years.

You know, a few years ago I didnt get one call all day and thought, wow, I cant believe my mom didnt even call me. Then around 6pm that night I got a call from her and my sister. I was pretty down that year. I guess you could say I felt alone.

This year, I was getting calls 2 days in advance wishing me a happy birthday. And on my birthday I must have gotten 15 calls. I had a special friend that drove 75 miles just to come have lunch with me.

You know, its not even about getting gifts when you get to this age. I think its more about knowing who your friends are and if they remember to make a simple phone call. It felt so good to get those calls and It makes you feel happy knowing people think of you. The best part is knowing that your not alone in the world and you do have people you can count on.

Friends or Foe

How do you know when you have a true friend?

Its always a little odd when you meet someone to know when you can confide in them and know that they wont go telling your business to everyone they know.

You hear about people that have known one another for years and are the best of friends. But when do you truly know that the person you think is your friend really is? Personally, I like to think that if I spend time talking with someone for a few months and they tell me a couple of deep dark secrets that they are probably not going to repeat something that I say. However, I have actually met people that after I tell them something, they run and tell it. So how long do I have to know this person before I can trust them?

And what about men and women....lets face it, its hard to find a guy and girl that can be real close without sex being involved. So when do you know that a guy is really your friend and not just trying to sleep with you?

If you have known someone for 5 years,  have nothing much to say to one another but enjoy one another's company from time to time...is that a friend or just a meaningless fling?

And then there are the people from work. You find someone being nice and you confide in them about something in the office and then they end up using it against you. Again, how do you know when you can trust someone? Are you ever really able to?

There is one person in my life that I consider a true friend. Has been there for me for the past 3 years and listens to me and helps me through all sorts of good and bad times. Id like to think that I am there for him as well. We dont see one another very often, but we talk almost every day. We have had our moments, but for the most part, I trust him with my life. We can talk about anything and neither of us judge.

Why can't more people be like that?

When do you know its over

You see people around you all the time that are dating. You either see them in one anothers face and cant get enough of each other or you see them bicker and fight constantly. If you are a year into a relationship, should you still be in the Honeymoon faze? When does it start to fade? At about three years? Dont get me wrong, I understand that when you are with someone that you love, the sparks dont stay as strong as when you first met. You will get comfortable with one another and be happy just being together. But when your fighting all the time, how long do you let it go before you end it? Why is it that some people cant seem to end it when they know that would be the best thing for them?

Sometimes it seems impossible to walk away from someone because it will hurt so bad. But over time it gets easier and if it was meant to be over then you will be happy without that person and find someone new.

I just dont understand why people have to end things badly. If you have spent a good amount of time with that person and had great memories, why wouldnt you want to end it where you can still be friends and not have hate towards one another? It just amazes me how the human mind can cause so many emotions and feelings and make parts of our lives unbareable at times.
